The Lighthouse Witches

By C.J. Cooke

The Short Version

The short will indeed be short: I read this book so quickly that I didn’t write down any quotes from it. I could feel myself get worked up and on edge, just like a horror movie. I loved it, and I think you could too. 5 stars (if I want to start following the hackneyed themes of generic booktokers).

The Long(er?)

It baffles the mind how even now, one can greatly fear the unknown. The concept of witchcraft, even to today divides many. I am not here to defend the practice, nor dispute it. I merely wish to attract attention to the consistent alienation of what we cannot understand.

This fear is present in the community of Lòn Haven spanning centuries, as our author uses the narrative to link to the undermined Scottish Witch Trials. We begin the novel with a dedication to a “Amy Hyndman (d.1662)”. A brief Google search yields very little known information, as the majority of any evidence from that time period was not preserved.

I will leave you, dear reader with these links that the author has provided. After all, life deserves a little mystery.
